Sometimes Windows will not close down correctly. You may go to "Turn off Computer", it goes through the process and then the screen just hangs on "Windows is Shutting Down" and you have to manual flick the switch to turn it off.
If this is happening to you then here are few possible solutions:-
1. Your computer may contain a virus or viruses, therefore ensure you have anti-virus software installed on your computer, make sure it is up-to-date and run it through. If you don't have any anti-virus software then download a free copy of AVG at http://free.grisoft.com and use this. Once you have used AVG Free please read the small print to ensure you are entitled to continue using it for free.
2. Your computer may have Spyware or Malware processes running on your computer, stopping the computer from shutting down. Download, update and run all the below free utilities.
Windows Defender - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx
Malware Bytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html
3. Your Registry may be corrupt which might be stopping the computer from closing down. Therefore download and run CClearner both with Cleaner and Registry.
CCleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com/
4. If after all the above you are still unable to close down your computer then please read the How Do I? article on Automatically end processes when shutting down Windows
